Columbia Park Pond Closing for Kids Fishing Day

Action: Closes Columbia Park Pond to fishing by the public two days prior to the youth fishing event, as well as the day of the event until 3:00 p.m.

Effective dates:

"¢ May 5, 12:01 a.m. to May 7, 8:00 a.m., Columbia Park Pond closed to all fishing

"¢ May 7 - Columbia Park Pond open only to pre-registered participants in the Kids' Fishing Day event 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Species affected: All game fish.

Location: Columbia Park Pond located within Columbia Park, Kennewick, Wash.

Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to assure a safe and successful Kids' Fishing Day event. Several thousand trout will be planted two days prior to the event to acclimate them and assure they bite well. On May 7, pre-registered kids will be allowed to fish during the event. The pond will reopen to juveniles and anglers with a disability who have a Department of Fish and Wildlife reduced-fee license or designated harvester card at 3:00 p.m. on May 7.

Other information: The Kids' Fishing Day event has been held at Columbia Park Pond for the past 10 years. The event this year will host over 1,200 kids as well as their families, friends and general members of the public.
