Ready, Set, Inflate Event to Kickoff Safe Boating Week
#1
COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft and Gahanna Department of Parks & Recreation will inflate to educate about the importance of wearing a lifejacket.

Gahanna is honored to be the host of Central Ohio's 2nd Annual Ready Set Inflate Day world record attempt at Woodside Green Park, 213 Camrose Court, on Saturday, May 21. This also marks the start of National Safe Boating Week, which is May 21-27, 2011.
Onsite registration and life jacket fitting is at 12 p.m. with inflation set for 12:30 p.m.
Registered adults get to wear and inflate an inflatable life jacket, courtesy of the Division of Watercraft. Family members under the age of 18 will be fitted with non-inflatable life jackets, so they can be part of the world record. Visit http://www.readysetinflate.com/cgi-bin/U..._event.cgi to register to attend.
Inflatable life jackets are promoted by ODNR for adults to wear when fishing and boating on flat water. They are less bulky, lighter and can be more comfortable than traditional life jackets. However, they must be manually inflated, which makes them not appropriate for minors or in white water or turbulent water conditions.
The Ready Set Inflate Day mission is to raise awareness about the importance of wearing a lifejacket. "Ready, Set, Inflate!" will usher in National Safe Boating Week. The goal of National Safe Boating Week is to educate and inform the boating public about boating safety, specifically life jackets. Educating the boating public about the safety and comfort of inflatable life jackets has been a main focus of the North American Safe Boating Campaign.
In 2010, 1,154 North American participants "inflated" at the same time. That number increased to 1,569 when 415 Australians "inflated" on July 30, 2010 at the Sydney International Boat Show.
The success of "Ready, Set, Inflate!" Inflatable Life Jacket World Record Day depends on local sponsors and partners. Cabela's® is once again serving as the national sponsor in the U.S. and boating safety educators and organizations are asked to hold local inflation events in their area. Leland, Ltd. has worked with the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) to offer over 1,000 CO2 cartridges to allow participants the opportunity to inflate their life jacket, but also practice re-arming techniques of inflatable life jackets.
