Oregon may have a $1,000,000 fish

And if we do, it will be in Henry Hagg or Detroit Lake. Both are included in the nationwide "Wanna Go Fishing for Millions" contest sponsored by Cabelas, Outdoor Channel and fish and wildlife agencies (including ODFW). See more details about the contest and register to participate.

Make plans to go fishing this holiday weekend
Trout fishing opens statewide this Saturday and while high water has been the story on larger rivers, many smaller creeks should be at fishable levels for this Saturday's opener. In addition, dozens of lakes, ponds and reservoirs throughout the state have been stocked with rainbow trout and should offer some great fishing. Check out the zone report for opportunities in your area.

Wildlife viewing is excellent across the state
The Vaux's Swifts have returned to Tillamook County and the Bullock's (Northern) oriole has arrived in the Umpqua Valley. Willamette Valley residents can see western pond turtles basking in local ponds. The ODFW White River Wildlife Area near The Dalles is welcoming Lewis's and pileated woodpeckers while commonly seen birds in Harney County include white-faced ibis and American avocet. Bald and golden eagles can be seen along open water areas of the Snake River in Baker County. Head for the beach from May 31 through June 8 for some great tidepooling. See reports in each Zone.
