Colorado State Parks' Website Offers Video Tips for Boaters to Prevent the Spread of Aquatic Nuisance Species
#1
DENVER - As boaters return to Colorado's waterways, the Colorado State Parks' website has a series of new, three to five minute videos to help boaters prepare for the season and for the mandatory boat inspections. The videos are posted, under the gold boating tab, at www.parks.state.co.us and offer information about aquatic nuisance species (ANS) and the threat they pose to Colorado's waterways.

The short and easy to understand videos include information on:
"¢ ANS - Why the ANS inspection program is so important to everyone in Colorado (Also available in Spanish)
"¢ The importance of ANS inspections
"¢ The ANS seals program
"¢ Checking for ANS on wakeboard and ballast tank boats
"¢ ANS inspection procedures
"¢ ANS decontamination program
"¢ ANS live bait procedures
"¢ ANS tips for boaters
The videos were produced with help from the Colorado Lottery and Great Outdoors Colorado to educate the public and boaters about ANS. The direct link to the videos is: http://parks.state.co.us/Boating/Pages/B...me.aspx
ANS are plants and animals that live in water and can be transported to a new lake, usually by unsuspecting boaters, where they can cause biological, economic and recreational damage. Zebra and quagga mussels are currently some of the ANS "hot species."
