We beat the crazys to the ramp, and was under way at around 0545 in the morning. Got to the jetties in MI, and was greeted with flat calm water. It's not often we can run 27 kts in the old hydrasport, but we'll take it when we can get it. We had originally banked on 60 ft of water, but with the flat seas, we moved on out past 80' of water in search of mahi. We trolled ballyhoo for quite a while, and no even a sniff from anything. I heard chatter on the VHF about a big temp break, but they were a ways farther out than our little 21 footer had range for. Oh well, we switched up to bottom fishing. Just a few weeks ago, the ledges we were at were full of fish. Those same ledges, were completely bare this time around. I suspect they moved out a little deeper, but we still managed to get our 3 limits. Didn't see a grouper, and only heard of a couple being caught.

We started moving back in to shallower water, with the intension of anchoring and dropping a chum block to temp a cobia. But, the seas got a little sporty. We tried it anyhow, and finally got hung. Bad news was, the chum bag ripped, and an entire block of chum washed away. That pretty much took it out of us. The last 12 miles was pure sloppy crap. The back and knees paid the price later on.

Fried the sea bass up yesterday, and it was delicious. Good day on the water, other than the ride back. Surface temp in 80' of water was 80.3 F. Lots and lots of bait in the water.
