Marlin Fishing in Ecuador
#1
THE SEARCH FOR THE BIG ONE

As we slip right in the middle of our ¨Summer¨ season, (funny that summer here is when the weather gets colder), we are seeing strong Marlin action around Salinas and Manta, mainly at the famous site of Las Puntas which is northwest of Salinas, around midway to Manta.
Water temperatures are ranging from 76 to 79 F, the water is crystal clear with a 2 to 3 foot average chop. Strong winds as expected for this time of the year but with favorable north to south currents giving us some excellent fishing. This weekend, two boats released big Blues, the range of one was surely over the 500 pound mark, while the other around 400 pounds. This is exactly what we expected to see, as we said on the last report.
We may not see too many strikes of marlins, but the ones that do come in, are of the biggest sizes of the year. Now is the time when anglers search for the ¨Big One¨ as we call it, making everybody excited and talking about potential records. Still, other boats reported multiple hookups of Blues in the range of 300lbs.
The Wahoo, of course, have made it fun for all of us too. Capt. Sultan on board his Sultana caught an incredible 106 lbs Wahoo, while two other boats that went to fish for Wahoo reported sizes up to 80 pounds on the famous Cope Bank.

A strong weekend, indeed. Let´s see who can top the 850 lbs Blue Marlin released last year in August. Maybe it can be you!!!.

Buena pesca amigos
