Looking for info on Traverse City
#1
Normally each year I make my annual pilgrimage to Pulaski NY for King salmon in the Salmon River! This year however, Funds and time are as tight as the line when hooked to a king. So I am looking into going to Traverse City to fish kings. When is the best time to go up there? Where can I fish for them without a boat or getting a guide? Any Ideas on cheaper lodging? Any help would be great.

for the kings, usualy later in the season, end of september on in to october.

there are coho and steelhead runs between now and then.

It is always a hit and miss on getting in to the main runs, but there is always some fish in the river.

you can get in on a number of rivers between manistee and travers right from shore or wading in.

to help you further, we need to know what type of lodging you are in need of. aka... camping, cabin, hotel... the area is geared for salmon anglers and tourist.

here is a pic of one I caught from up that way a couple years ago.

Nicer kKng! Dave I will be staying in a hotel when I go up I was looking at the 1st or 2nd weekend in October as when I would get up there. My wife will be coming with me and she does not fish! I will have a good set of wader with me and a fly rod and spinning rod. With this being my first trip up to Traverse City not traviling too far would be nice as I would have no idea where i am going up there. I am very intrested in the King run and I know that it is hit or miss about when it will start but just being out there with one on the line is the idea. I thank you for the information.

google earth this,

It is a state park ground. a park sticker may be needed.
this is south of town a bit. The river is wadeable but keep your eyes on other guys who are avoiding holes.

should be less than an hour but not sure, never went from travers to this local.

the town is benzie, if you reach a trailer parkground on the right next to the river, you missed your turn. turn around and go back north and make the first right.

a lot of guys camp right there in the campground right on the river. I mean it is walk out the tent ten feet and fish..

there are other places right near there up and down the river where you can get on. Just ask any one in any shop town, they are happy to help you.

I did not catch mine there, but did tag in to a couple.

you would take 37 south out of Travers then take 31 west off of 37 on to Love Rd where you will go east untill you come to Dam Rd and turn south till it ends in the parking lot.

Medalie Park

[#000000]is on the river right there in Traverse city, but I dont think there would be any kings in that area, Reason being they dont plant them there that I know of. I dont know any one who has fished it.[/#000000]
[#000000][/#000000]
[#000000]There is a resturaunt right there next to the park, you could call them up and ask about the quizene and ask about the fishing in the area to see if any one has caught any kings in the area.[/#000000]

But if you wanted to stay in manistee or cadilack you would be 30-45 min from tippy dam where they plant the kings.

from either place you take 55 to South Tippy Dam Rd and go north.

Also the casino is there to if your in to that. I have never gone in there so I know nothing about casino's

now if you dont mind an hours drive, you can come down 37 to 55 and go west to South tippy Dam Rd. Speed limit is 55 from travers city all the way to the tippy dam road.

You might try map quest to see miles and time from your hotel.
