CALIFORNIA MAN, 49, DIES AT LAKE MOHAVE

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. - The National Park Service has identified a man who died Sunday afternoon as Matthew S. Santistevan, 49, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Santistevan, his wife and several friends had been in the park recreating on Lake Mohave at Newberry Cove. After beaching their boat, Santistevan went wading. After a few minutes,his friends noticed that he was missing, and found him nonresponsive in approximately 6-10 feet of water.His friends pulled him ashore, began CPR, and contacted the National Park Service via marine band radio seeking assistance. Rangers and medics arrived, continued CPR, and attempted advanced life saving techniques. Lifesaving efforts were not effective, and Santistevan was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 PM. Santistevan was not wearing a life jacket.The incident remains under investigation by the National Park Service. The Clark County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.
