Trailer Wheel Allignment?
#1
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#0000ff][size 2]My single axel boat trailer is apparently out of alignment because the inside tread of the right tire is showing significant wear. The left tire is also showing some similar wear but not nearly as bad as the right tire. I am wondering what is the best way to remedy that problem. Is there such a thing as frame bending for trailers? Or is there some kind of wheel alignment process for this type of problem? Have any of you had this problem and fixed it? Any suggestions? Have you measured from the end of your axle to the toung on both sides to make sure the axle is square on the frame? Also check for broken springs or bent shackles and mounts. Even worn bushings will cause the tires to tip enough to wear funny.

Alignment Specialists in Salt Lake City does a great job with trailer alignments. They are on 2100 south and about 1200 west.

I'm having the same issue with my trailer, I bought a new axle for mine 1 year after buying it and it did not fix the problem. If you find a fix for this let me know I don't think it is an alignment issue or you would have wear on the outside of one tire and inside of the other,Most like it is the camber in the axel itself. Is your axel strait or does it have a V in the middle. Mine has a V and I did make the problem better by using a floor jack lifting the boat and trailer up on the V, it changed the camber to the outside slightly when I set the trailer on the ground the tires where allot straighter and I have allot less wear but they are still wearing on the inside.
I am going to take it to state trailer supply this spring and see if they can fix the problem.
If you find some one give me a call I would like some info on what they did and what your problem was.

Tony,

Yes, my trailer axil is "V" shaped (slightly) as are most boat trailer axils. The "V" has nothing to do with the "V" shaped hull of the boat. It has something to do with alignment.

I would be very sceptable about taking your trailer to a trailer supply, even if they build and repair trailers in their shop. I took mine to TJ's trailer supply and their solution was to replace axel with a heaver one, alter other spension, wheels, and tires, etc.. $$$$$

I was telling my woes to a good friend of mine who said to go get the trailer BEFORE they touch it. He, like Petty4life above, recomended TDS (Tire Distribution Systems) of Ogden. Man I am glad I did. TDS did an absolutely wonderful job all for about $80!

TDS puts the trailer (with the boat on it) on some allignment measuring equipment. They take computerized "before" and "after" measurements. They use some fancy hydrolic equipment to form the axil back into proper specifications. I was way impressed. And yes, they did fix my existing trailer axil alignment problems.

They said that it is very normal for trailers to need to have their axils alignment adjusted after a few years of heavy use.

Again, I was very impressed their quality, price, and turnaroud time (about 2 hours).
