Polfus/Zalewski Win Cabela's MWC Walleye Tourney
#1
ESCANABA, MI—It was the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) vs. Mother Nature at the Cabela's MWC Team Tournament September 13-14 on the Bays de Noc near Escanaba, Michigan.

The area had experienced only an inch of rain during the four months preceding the tournament, but that changed after the team rules meeting the first night. Strong southwesterly winds blew in a blanket of clouds that dropped rain for the duration of the event.

Despite the weather, the 154-team field weighed and released 589 walleyes weighing 1,552.59 pounds.

Lloyd Polfus of Cedar River, Michigan, and Gary Zalewski of Roselle, Illinois, put together a two-day, 10-fish limit totaling 29.99 pounds to win the tournament. Their first circuit victory was worth $19,000.
