Fishermen waiting for second shoe to drop in Connecticut
#1
Every year about this time, what I like to call fishing's "Shoe Season" begins in Connecticut.
No, the shoe in question is not a marine species, although it might affect a sole (that's a pun, son). The shoe we are talking about is the one in the old saying "waiting for the second shoe to drop."
Shoe Season actually begins in January or February when the good folks at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's inland and marine fishing divisions announce the dates and places for public hearings on possible changes in fishing regulations for the coming season. Once those announcements are made, it is a matter of waiting for the resounding crash of the second shoe when the DEEP publishes the actual revised regulations.

Interesting how they came up with data that showed lower blue and striper numbers in the past 5 years. We all knew that already. No more do the blues boil in New Haven Harbor or Stonington. Spring runs on stipers have decreased every year. [frown] But why give us a slot limit for one striper to have for dinner.
