John Martin Reservoir State Park to Open for Boating
#1
HASTY, Colo. - John Martin Reservoir State Park will open for boating on Thursday, March 15. To prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS), including zebra and quagga mussels, all trailered vessels and all vessels with gas powered motors must be inspected prior to launch and must launch and load at the boat ramps.

The inspection station near the visitor center will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If the inspection station is unmanned during these hours, please go to the park's visitor center to have your boat inspected.

Vessels planning to launch outside of posted inspection times will require a pre-inspection seal attached prior to launch, which can be obtained during normal inspection hours. Pre-inspection seals are to be removed by boaters upon launching, and placed in the pre-inspection drop box, along with their corresponding seal receipt, located near the inspection station. Remember to always clean, drain, and dry your vessel to help prevent the spread of ANS.

For additional information, please check the "Conditions" section of the John Martin State Park website at www.parks.state.co.us Starting April 1, several areas around the lake will be marked with buoys stating "Endangered Bird Nests, Keep Out." No one is allowed inside these areas, both on the water and on the shorelines. These closures are to protect the nesting sites of the endangered piping plover and least tern.

Starting April 5, the Corps of Engineers will close the east boat ramp for a staging area to conduct dam maintenance activities. It is anticipated that this area will be closed for 2-4 weeks. The west boat ramp will remain open for boat launching.
