FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will remove stunted white crappie from Boltz Lake in Grant County beginning at dusk on Monday, March 26.
The fisheries division plans to utilize electrofishing boats to remove 5- to 8-inch white crappie for restocking into Taylorsville Lake in Spencer County.
"Even though these crappie are small in size, they are mature fish that will spawn this year in Taylorsville Lake," said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "With hope, this will improve the white crappie population in Taylorsville Lake which has declined in recent years."
The removal of stunted white crappie from Boltz Lake promotes growth in the crappie and benefits other species remaining in the lake. This will provide anglers better fishing opportunities in the future. This effort is part of the active management plan to improve fishing on Boltz Lake.
Local residents and lake users recently participated in a public meeting about the new management plan and supported this project.
