FISHING REPORT

STRIPED BASS -- Schoolie reports have been increasing a bit along the local shoreline. There are not blitzes by a long shot but we're hearing about bass up to legal size being taken from local creek mouths and near shore rock piles. Long Sand Shoal and some of the other local reefs have been giving up some larger bass, all on bait. Southwest and Six Mile Reefs have a mixture of bass and smallish blues.
Reports from the Race have been fair to good particularly at night.
Bunker have been thick in and around the mouth of the Connecticut River up until this morning.
BLUEFISH -- Blues have shrunk down in size this week with a lot of schools running under 5 pounds. Southwest and Black Point have had some of these mostly on jigs. Still some better sized blues being caught in the River from shore on bait.
Plum Gut and the Race are holding their own.
The WICC Bluefish Contest is scheduled for the weekend of August 24-25. We have applications now and will be a weigh in station.
SNAPPER BLUES - They're up to 4" and mostly scattered around the River where there's a current break or little rip. Try the DEP Piers, Causeway and Blackhall River.
FLUKE -- Now that we're approaching the half way point in the season, we can safely say it won't go down as one of the better ones. Even with the lower size limits keeper sizes are hard to come by.
Montauk was a disappointment last week as was RI. The guys that are targeting doormats in deep, deep water are getting a couple of fish a tide. Some of those have been huge, a 13+as weighed in this week.
Our Fluke Contest started May 15th. There's some changes. It's going to be a 3 shop contest. River's End, Hillyers and the Fish Connection. Top prize will be $1000 and you can enter or weigh in at any of the shops. We will also weigh in fluke for Fishin' Factory III in Middletown.
Last weeks winner was Harold Walden with a 8.65 pound doormat.
PORGIES - Reports are still very good from Cornfield to Bartletts. Just bear in mind that they can't cover the entire reef, try to find them on the depth finder before you anchor up. If you really want to hold under the boat put out a chum pot, you know the flounder one you haven't used in a decade.
BLUE CRABS - Good reports are coming in from the Connecticut River Coves, all of them below Essex have been worthwhile.
BLACKFISH -- No reports again.
Sat -Sun 4 am to 5 pm
Mon- Fri 5am to 7pm
