I'm not too sure what fishing is like far up the river, but towards the mouth it is sometimes pretty good. The most thrilling fish to hook up with is a papio or ulua. A papio is a juvenile trevally, while an ulua is the adult trevally. I'm not familiar with the English names for some of the other fish that I am about to list: aholehole, awa, and lots of tilapia. The trevally don't always enter the river. It depends on what kind of fish are in the area. During August-September is usually really good. This is when the goat fish spawn are about. These are baby fish we call oama. When they are in the river the trevally are out and about in force. Sometimes you may even be lucky to hook up with an ulua in the 30# range.

Allan
