Virginia Tech angler wins first FLW Boating Safety Challenge
#1
BOATERexam.com is happy to announce that Jody White, an angler on the Virginia Tech Bass Fishing Team, has won the first FLW Boating Safety Challenge. As the contest winner, White and a friend will receive a trip to the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart in Duluth, Ga., Aug. 9-12 and a VIP fishing experience with an FLW Tour pro.

BOATERexam.com and the FLW Foundation launched the FLW Boating Safety Challenge as part of an ongoing partnership to encourage safe boating in the angling community. A key part of the contest involved sharing a boating safety quiz using social media. Participants earned more contest entries by sharing the quiz.

White, who shares his passion for bass fishing on his blog and Twitter account, used these social media channels to his advantage, racking up entries that ended up giving him an edge in the contest. Said White, "I'm really excited to travel to the FWC. And I heard that I'm going to get out on the water with a pro. It's going to be a blast!"

Dave Washburn, of the FLW Foundation, hopes that with better awareness and access more anglers will take a boating safety course. "Most boating accidents can be avoided if the boaters know how to react in a particular situation," Washburn said. "With interactive boating safety courses now available online, it is easier than ever to be prepared."

"It's inspiring to see people like Jody sharing their love of fishing through avenues like Twitter," said Kerry Moher, of BOATERexam.com. "And if that online conversation also includes what it means to be a responsible and safe boater, it will really make a big difference."

The FLW Foundation connects America's youth to their natural resources and promotes education, conservation and an active lifestyle. This mission is accomplished through diverse public and private partnerships that:

"¢ Teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as they relate to outdoor activities

"¢ Encourage an active lifestyle with time outside enjoying our nation's rich natural resources

"¢ Promote and provide funding and support for high school and college initiatives relevant to conservation, fishing and outdoor activities

"¢ Advance sound conservation practices, environmental stewardship and boating safety

Developed by Fresh Air Educators, BOATERexam.com is America's leading provider of online boating safety education. The fully animated and interactive online boating safety course helps students acquire boating licenses in over 40 states.
