Hello Roy.
I am not an expert on surf fishing but I have a couple of hard-core anglers with great insight on the California Boards. There is a post on the 2nd page 5 posts down about SURF FISHING FOR SHARKS. ROMEROFISHERKING gave up his honey hole which just happens to be down in your neck of the woods in San Onofre. I will send out a post to ask him if he wouldn't mind responding to your post.

Booyaa To Ya'!
http://www.fishingclothes.com
Romero

I've some sucess wit fishing 12 pound line (You can break it off if you get hung up, which is real difficult with 15#).

Use a graphite rod to better feel the lure as it hits kelp, rocks or a fish.

Try "Scrounger" leadheads (The ones with the clear plastic lip that wiggles). The plastic lip covers the hook point in structure to make it virtually weedless.

Use bright Chartruese colors in winter and keep 'um on the bottom, banging into rocks. In summer switch back to Root Beer colors.

You'll catch 'um.
