FWC Announces Increased Lionfish Harvest
#1
Who: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

What: The FWC will hold a media event to announce changes in lionfish management that will allow for increased harvest opportunities. Examples of devices that can be used to harvest lionfish will be on hand, as well as tanks with live lionfish.

When: Monday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.

Where: Matheson Hammock Park and Beach, 9610 Old Cutler Road, Miami.

Why: Lionfish are a nonnative invasive species that threaten Florida's saltwater fish and wildlife. Lionfish prey on our native species and are known to reproduce and spread quickly.

The FWC encourages people to remove lionfish in Florida waters to limit negative impacts to native fish and wildlife.

This media event will include information on recent changes, safety and more.
