#1
Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 8/20/12 to 8/26/12

. Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accommodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: Water Temperatures have stayed in the low 80,s all over the local fishing grounds for the past week. Today at the 1150 temperatures were around 85 degrees. Gordo banks was at 82 today, according to Terrafin. At the Jamie Banks water was around 77 to 79 degress in some spots. Up above the Golden gate there was some 77 to 79 degree water today. In the 95 area water was around 81 today. I did notice from the arch, a little south east about 15 miles out, water was around 77 to 79. So it looks as if we do have some pockets of cooler water in the areas. Im sure all the game fish will be following the warmer water. By looking at Terra fin I kinda think better fishing will be from 3 to 8 miles off shore .On the Pacific side south of the Golden Gate, and out 3 to 7 miles. With the water temperature being so important to fishing, Terra fin is really a handy tool to have.
WEATHER: Well the weather has been partial clouds, and hot and humid past few days. It feels almost like September already. We really have had some very humid days and nights. After our down pour a couple weeks ago everything has become very green in the desert and things are just starting to dry out again. Today and last night I could actually feel a nice almost cool breeze with really stunning sunsets last couple days.
BAIT: Plenty of live bait and Caballitos around. They are the normal 3 dollars a piece.
BILLFISHING: Another strong week of fishing here in Los Cabos. Striped Marlin and Sailfish once again have been in abundance. On the 21 of August our own Bob Marlin caught 1 Marlin and some Tuna. That same day on another charter boat, there was a triple hook up of Sailfish, and 2 of the 3 were caught and released. Another charter boat reported catching 1 Marlin, 1 Sailfish and 5 Dorado just off the Light House. On the 24 of August there was a good bite of Marlin from the Pump House up to the Golden Gate 2 to 4 miles offshore. That same day the Dorado bite in that area was really good. The 25 of August we were using live bait to catch Marlin again up inside of the Golden Gate. The Pacific side ,and in particular the Golden Gate area has been really hot for Striped Marlin and Saiilfish. Really all in all Billfishing has been really productive this past week. I also hear lots of Marlin were caught in the Puerto Los Cabos area. Really warm water temperatures have been helpful.
TUNA: Another killer week for Tuna. We have seen lots of action over the last few days. A friend of ours Brett fishing on our boat caught a 170 pound Tuna and also landed 2 in the 100 pound range. The fish were caught at the 1150 using live bait. I think that wore Brett out a bit. Another boat we had out that same day caught 18 Tuna in the 8 to 15 pound range using striker kings. The fish were located with the porpoise. The striker kings look like little hoochies and resemble little squid. It seems as if all the commercial Tuna boats have left and we are seeing good numbers of Tuna consistently being caught over the last week. We had another day of fishing where we caught 13 Tuna on striker kings and cedar plugs. We have been very active with Tuna over the past few days and we expect some more of the same.
DORADO: The Dorada bite has been productive as well this past week. We have been seeing large numbers of fish. Making for some great dinners . The Light house area on the pacific has been producing some good numbers. It seems 2 to 6 miles offshore is where there hanging. What is common is Dorado in the 10 to 20 pound range with some bulls going to the 50 mark. The 1150 and 95 have also seen some action for good numbers of Dorado over the last few days. With the really warm water in the Gordo Banks area Dorado fishing has been really good. The new marina of San Jose has seen lots of Dorada lately. We know with the Warm water in place we will see this action for some time.
WAHOO: I have heard of some Wahoo strikes this past week. The Wahoo fishing is spotty and we are hoping to see a few more around soon.

INSHORE: The Tuna and Dorado bite has been good not to far from shore. Grouper and Red Snapper has been good on pacific around the Pump Station. Local fisher man really do good in this area for Sea Bass. Some Roosterfish have been caught on the pacific also. Really inshore fishing has been good for Tuna, Dorado, Striped Marlin and Sailfish. Some guys have been catching Marlin from there Pangas.

BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
