California Fly Fishing Faire Sept. 13-16 in Mammoth Lakes
#1
MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. - A full slate of motion pictures - entertaining, educational and historical - is on tap at the Fly Fishing Faire, Sept. 13-16 at the Edison Theater, 100 College Parkway across from Cerro Coso College in Mammoth Lakes.

The four day homage to fly-fishing is sponsored by the Southwest Council Federation of Fly Fishers. Admission for all film showings is $5.

For Mono and Inyo County residents and visitors, the highlight film is The Manzanar Fishing Club, a feature-length documentary that chronicles the World War II internment of Japanese-Americans from a unique perspective: through the eyes of those who defied the armed guards, barbed wire and searchlights to fish for trout in the Eastern Sierra. By emphasizing the evacuees' personal stories, the film shows how a courageous few were able to take back moments of dignity and freedom through the simple act of fishing.

Mas Okui, a former Manzanar internee and fly-fisher, is featured in the film. He will be in attendance throughout the Faire to answer questions.

Other showings include the award-winning International Fly Fishing Film Festival, a compilation of action/adventure stories; the story of Mono Lake plus fly-fishing shorts; and Project Healing Waters plus shorts. Project Healing Waters chronicles how fly-fishing helps heal wounded or disabled veterans.
