Fort Lauderdale Fishing Action
#1
September 14, 2012

Josh from Palm Beach and a few of his business clients came fishing on the Lady Pamela IV with Darin and me. We headed out Port Everglades at 8:00 a.m. and immediately started trolling south from 100-300 feet of water. We have been catching fish along the reef here all week, and today was no exception. The trolling this morning was superb as we caught two blackfin tunas, a kingfish, five bonitos and one mahi-mahi. We had some good fishing fights, good fun, and even a nice fish dinner to take home; not a bad day on the water.

Today I ran the Lady Pamela II, and we headed out the inlet around 8:00 a.m. for a six hour charter with Steve and his son Adam. We started trolling for sailfish and mahi-mahi with dredges, expecting the action to be like the day before, but it was a slow start to the morning. We had only caught one barracuda up until 10 a.m., but then we hooked a sailfish. Adam had never caught one so he jumped into the chair while Steve filmed the battle. It was a 20 minute fight on a 20 lb spinning rod so it was a real challenge for Adam. Once we landed the fish we took some great pictures, tagged it, and released it. Happy with the day’s topwater action we decided to do a few bottom drops on the wrecks. We caught fish on just about every drop, including six tile fish, a vermillion snapper and a ten lb. Snowy grouper. Turned out to be a good day after all!

Later in the afternoon we had Juan and a few friends from Miami join us. We headed out the cut around 3:00 p.m. and caught a barracuda and a mahi-mahi right off the bat. Having caught some fish so fast they decided they wanted to go cruising along the Intracoastal Waterway. They wanted to see the super yachts, and the waterfront mansions and estates of the rich and famous, and we kindly obliged. It was a great way to round out a fishing trip.

Tight Lines,
