LOS ANGELES - The Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation is proud to announce a new free kids fishing derby at Legg Lake in South El Monte. The lake will have an extra stocking of catfish for this every special event. Children ages 5-15 are invited to participate in this free youth fishing event at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, a Los Angeles County Department of Recreation and Parks facility located at 751 South Santa Anita Ave. South El Monte, CA 91733, on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
This activity is designed to give boys and girls who live in urban areas an opportunity to enjoy a fishing experience in or close to their own neighborhood, with poles, reels, tackle, bait, and assistance provided. Event day onsite registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.; the fishing session will go from 9:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a congratulatory ceremony and drawing.
Anglers age 16 or older can fish at the end of the event, but they must have a California State Fishing License.
Montebello Police Department is co-sponsoring the derby with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, The Los Angeles County Department of Recreation and Parks, California Department of Fish and Game, and other partners expected to participate.
