Issue: SEASON UPDATES

Action: Upcoming and continuing season openings and closures

Information: The following species have upcoming season openings/closures.

Stone crab: Opens Oct. 15 for recreational and commercial harvest.Bay Scallop: Closes Sept. 25 in state waters.

Gag Grouper: Gulf:Open for recreational harvest in most Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters through Oct. 31 with the exception state waters off the coast of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties, where harvest is closed. Gag grouper caught in state and federal waters during the July-through-October season may be taken ashore in Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties, but boats with gag grouper aboard may not stop in and must have gear stowed while traveling through state waters in that region. Monroe County state waters follow the Atlantic season for gag grouper, which is currently open.<br />
Recreational opening and closures closures in state waters (October-November):

Oct. 1 -

Oyster opens in all counties except Dixie, Wakulla and Levy (closed June 1-August 31) and Apalachicola Bay (open year round)

Oct. 5 -

Blue Crab trap reopens (Gulf state waters beyond three miles, federal waters)

Oct. 15 -

Stone Crab opens

Nov. 1 -

Vermilion Snapper (Atlantic) closes

Gag Grouper (Gulf) closes
