Anyone looking for family-friendly fun is invited to stop by the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 for a weekend of winter-themed events, kicking off Friday, Nov. 30, with the movie "Ice Age," followed by an open house on Saturday and a snowshoe-making workshop on Sunday.
The animated classic "Ice Age" begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium; visitors are welcome to bring blankets, sleeping bags and pillows and get comfy! Pizza, soft drinks, popcorn and snacks will be available for purchase.
Visitors are invited to bring their holiday shopping lists to Saturday's open house (which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) to find unique, fish-themed gifts and more at the Fish Market Gift Shop. The gift shop is located inside the visitor center and operated by the Friends of Wolf Lake. Guests can also tap into their creative talents and make their own gifts; staff will be on hand to teach people how to make a jig, tie a fly, or create their own one-of-a kind artwork.
On Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m., the visitor center will offer a class on how to make a pair of traditional wooden snowshoes. Because this workshop requires focus and concentration, it is recommended for participants ages 15 and older. A class fee of $180 covers the cost of one snowshoe kit. Class size is limited and preregistration is required.
