To day we had our first-H fishing derby in Oakland County of the year,

This was a closed event for handy caped/educationally challenged children and their families.

It was cold but dry and sunny. Only one fish was caught for the day, it was 8 and 1/2inch Warmouth Bass caught by a 13 year old girl..

They had a great time with shirt painting and casting contest and fishing.

I spent most of my time fixing broken reels and setups.

I want to give Dwight (ssor) a special thanks for the best gift of all, he and his mom drove over 300 miles (one way) over night to join us at this event to personally donate and deliver a new computer for a grand door prize. God Bless You and your Mom

If there were an award for going that extra mile, ssor you'd be gettin about 600 of em about now.

left to right...
Chris..... Dave,
First of all I would like to thank you and all for a day of memories and happy tears that will never be forgoten. It was a great experionce for all that attended. As the day went on the wind slowed and the bright sun helped all feal great. I truly enjoyed the chance to talk with and get to know the kids. It was hard for me to keep up with all the events but the kids had a great time and that is what counts.
You do have one error in your post on the count of fish caught. Just before I got my camera packed away for the trip home there was a second fish caught and I did catch an image on my camera. Will post pic's of both to this thred after I get them downloaded.
Meeting you in person was a true joy. I hope it will happen again soon. Your precision work on the geer for the kids is to be admired as you kept up with the steady flow of tangled lines and reel jams and an ocasional broken gear.
Every one that was involved with this event is truly a winner of memorys and a learning experionce.
I developed friendships and memorys that will be with me for a lifetime and for that I thankyou.[Smile]

Texas Gulf Coast Fisher <*(())))))))))>{
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/ROSS6959/

Ma & Pa’s 4-H Free Fishing Derby

Final Report

January;
1) It was decided to run a youth fishing derby in Commerce Township Michigan
2) A project plan of action was developed
3) Meet with my contact person at the Oakland County 4-H Extension to conform my planning for best results.

February;
1) Hooked on Fishing International was contacted for consideration in their program.
2) Together my 4-H Leader Supervisor and I met with Commerce Township Parks and Recreation to request permission for use of their newly acquired pond, received via the state of Michigan Road Commission. The derby was approved to proceed to the Township Board of Trustees to request the formal land use permit.
3) Upon meeting with the Commerce Township Trusties and Commerce Township Supervisor they requested that we provide them with proof of our insurance before approval of the land use permit.

March;
1) We complied with their request and provided to them our insurance provisions. Their official response was that our insurance provisions were not suitable for the project in question. And then requested that we provide them with a $1,000,000.oo policy to cover Commerce Township of any liabilities.
2) I contacted my insurance agency and they informed me that Commerce Township was already insured for such programming and would not add any additional insurance to their coverage through me and if they wanted it that they would have to seek the additional coverage themselves.
3) Met with Ted Nugent and got a autographed hat for a prize at the derby.

April;
1) I decided to find a different location for the derby and met with the Park Manager at Proud Lake Recreation Area for use and permit of their park (Powers Beach). This project was met with immediate acceptance and we would only have to forgo the formalities of the paperwork to get the program on its way. The derby was met (in my opinion) great anticipation on their part.
2) The following week they had the paperwork completed in a timely manner.
3) Received the package from Hooked on Fishing International with promotional supplies and prizes.
4) Several attempts to reach the contact person at my local Wall-Mart Store, was met with avoidance by said contact person. A phone number was given me and I used it with out receiving any reply at all. (Commerce Township Store)
5) Additional fishing line hooks and other supplies (about $100) was purchased at Wall-Mart (Commerce Township Store) for the purpose of making leader kits to go with the not tying card provided by Hooked on Fishing International.

May;
1) Again several attempts to reach the contact person at my local Wall-Mart Store, was met with avoidance by said contact person. A phone number was given me and I used it with out receiving any reply at all. (Commerce Township Store)
2) Met with my 4-H Leader Supervisor to confirm that all programming criteria were met.
3) Distributed flyers to near by schools, bait & sporting goods stores.
4) Provided my local paper (Spinal Column) with needed information to promote the derby on their just for kids only page.

June;
1) Two days before the derby I purchased another rod and real combo from the Wall-Mart store in Commerce Township ($30.oo). Two rolls of film ($10.oo)
2) Met with store manager at the Commerce Township Wall-Mart store to ask them to post my derby poster in their store. I was met with reluctance by the manager as she stated that she had already donated 30 dozen crawlers to my derby. I had to exclaim to her that I received no such donation nor did I ask for any such donation nor was I seeking any donations of any kind what so ever and only wanted to have my poster placed in a high traffic location of the store. She said that it would be placed at the sporting goods area,
3) My sources of which checked on placement of the poster Friday evening did not find it in the sporting goods area or was it seen at any location of shopping in the store.
4) The day of the derby I was met at the park by Park Rangers who were friendly courteous and eager to assist with our derby in any way they could. The park was clean and beautiful, and as always and the restrooms were pristine and smelling nice.
5) Oakland County 4-H Extension provided use of fishing poles for kids who did not have one
6) Parents of participants were surveyed to see which media was the source of their finding out about the derby. Wall-Mart scored “0”
7) Three 24 exposures rolls worth of pictures were taken of fish caught, frogs caught, and casting contest.
8) Casting contest went in to a dead heat because of a tie between two contestants.
9) Prizes were presented to perspective winners.
10) Every one went home happy and satisfied.
11) Film was turned in to the Commerce Township Wall-Mart store for development ($38.oo)

Total income are
a.
