fishing report
#1
Fishing wasn’t to shabby today, I’m happy any time I come home with a dozen nice size gills. “Got 20” using leaf worms.

TODAY, 4 KIDS WENT THROUGH THE ICE. THREE IN ONE PLACE AND ONE ON THE DETROIT RIVER! ALL SURVIVED.

Here in Michigan in the lower half there is no safe moving water. This includes lakes and ponds that are spring fed.

[cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

Patterns I’m not sure of I think they are using spawn.

Location is the Tawas bay area, on the bay boardwalk and adjacent rivers. I'll dig out my maps and post specifics soon.

Dress worm. It is cold and most likely you will be sitting through some cold rain or snow squalls.

[cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

Well I walked out to the lake today, the only I could see to get on the lake was to jump over a river rat that was between the ice and me.

NO MO ICE for me. That is other than doing a little next to the ice fishing.

Guess I will start planning for next year.

I think next year will be colder so I will start designing me a new shanty.

We got so much warm rain today that I won’t be looking to get back on the ice this year. (Well Maybe In December, I Hope)

[cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

Fly Fishing for Steelheads in Michigan

Here is the location I promised;

Take 23 to East Tawas to Wadsworth street turn right you are there.

There are many locations in the area that you will want to try.
East Tawas up to Oscoda then inland, follow your way up the Ausable River any where you can get on, up to the Foote Dam Pond.

Note when you here a siren going off you got 15 minutes to get out of the river. The dam is opening and you will get washed away if you are wading any near.

I do a little schnook salmon fishing in the area in the early fall.

Watch out for those pesky lampreys, I have seen them come in attached to the side of a salmon as well as catching them on hook and line.

[cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

Went fishing in Novi Michigan
Rainbow and brook trout are hitting at an average of about 20 per minute.

This is catch and release only fishing with an unusual up swing that is if you catch a fish in the time limit allotted you win one of two trips (walleye on lake Erie or white water rafting in west Virginia)

I caught 2 rainbows good for one trip I chose walleye.

[cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

The race is on!
The red horse suckers are starting their annual run
same with steelhead
and smelt.

I am getting reports from friends fishing near the river outlets by Augreys and Tawas areas for smelt and salmon few and far between but they are starting nonetheless. It will be any day now!

With the warm temps here in lower MI and ice is just in pieces this is the time of the "Red Horse Run" though there are not as many as there was thirty years ago because the state has stopped stocking them in the streams, they are still a tasty treat. I’ll be out in a day or so just as soon as I can find me another hole. (Some one stuck a golf coarse over top of my favorite sucker hole.)

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T.
