Afternoon/Evening Trip February 12, 2002
#1
Our afternoon/evening trip today required us to do a bit of searching to find pilchards and herring as they were not at their usual places in Government Cut. Since the Cruise Ships were not in, we could travel further west in the Cut. When we finally found them, it was fast and furious action with full stringers of bait coming in quickly. Starting in 160' straight out of Government cut produced no action. As I moved to the south, we came upon a large weed line in 275' - 300' off of the middle of Key Biscayne. Working toward the south, the birds finally put us on some dolphin and we kept 2 and missed a few others before the school disappeared. Our next move was off the Hotels on Key Biscayne in 140'. Lots of live chumming and when we reached 125', we were rewarded with an 82" sailfish that was caught and released on 12# with the new Pflueger Trion PFL 66 reel and Pflueger Trion IM-8 Graphite rod from Shakespeare. It was Larry's first sail and he said he can hardly wait to catch another one. Time to move inshore and try for some tarpon. With just a slight breeze, the drift was a very slow one. Using live shrimp, we hooked three fish and landed and released two. Once again Larry caught his first tarpon, an estimated 80# fish. Glenn made quick work of the 45 pounder that he hooked and after one final drift, we headed back to Spinnaker Marina.

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
nkostyo@bellsouth.net
305 620-5896 Charter
305 732-2628 Beeper
