Redbone/Large Tarpon Tournament April 26-28 out of Islamorada

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys - Former NASA astronaut Bruce Melnick is to serve as celebrity host of the Redbone @ Large Sunrise/Sunset Tarpon Tournament set for Friday through Sunday, April 26-28. Melnick was a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1990 and flight engineer on the first flight of the Shuttle Endeavour.

Limited team entries are still available for the popular event that marks the annual migration of the mighty silver kings to the waters off the Florida Keys.

Registration is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Islander Resort, the host lodging property, located at mile marker (MM) 82.1 bayside. A kick-off welcome reception with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and silent auction is to follow until 8 p.m.

Saturday, April 27, anglers are to fish out of the Lorelei Cabana Bar & Marina, MM 82 bayside. After a 5 a.m. guides check-in and continental breakfast, the blessing of the fleet is set for 5:30 a.m. Fishing is scheduled until 10 a.m., with a dockside lunch available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fishing resumes from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by a light buffet at the Lorelei beach.

Fishing Sunday, April 28, is scheduled from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The event is to close with an awards luncheon Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the legendary Islamorada Fishing Club adjacent to the Lorelei.

Entry fee is $3,000 per two-angler team, which includes guide fee and social privileges for each angler, their guests and guide.

Redbone angling events benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
