First rule is, make sure you are fishing in a spot that has big fish. There has to be plenty of food for the big fish to eat, usually crayfish or minnow and lots of insects
Some places do not grow big fish

Big trout need security and food, so look for areas that have cover and good feeding areas nearby. Deep water is one form of security. Trout will go there if threatened. Also river channels on the bottom of the lake near inlet.

It's best to fish during morning or evening or when clouds block sunlight, or when wind disrupts the surface. Try minnow bait if worms aren't working. Fish eat minnow head first. If they are feeding aggressive try big lures.

Lastly, be patient. Catching big trout requires the patience of a Zen.

Good stuff Harlin, also don't be afraid to try different baits, powerbait, flies, inflated nightcrawlewrs, I also always do well with rooster tails, kastmasters.
