Is 40 lb braided line good enough for muskie?
#1
I'm going fishing in the Alleghenies and purchased some nice high quality braided fishing line that's 40 lbs. is this good enough for the muskie? Also what knots do you recommend? Also how to set my drag properly?

Welcome to the site Graham. It depends on the size of the Muskie you are trying to catch but I would say 40 lb braid is more that good enough to catch any muskie you are after, myself, I'd say 30 lb is all you would need. There are certain knots that are used for braid that are better because of the slippery nature of braid line. I use a certain knot for braid but I can't recalled the name. Try typing in braid knots in a search engine. I set my drag so that I can pull it out by hand, not real easy but you should be able to pull i out with a little effort.

when you tie aknot with braid use either a palomar, or a uni knot. these 2 knots wont slip on braid. and if i were you, i would still use a steel leader. ive had cut off using 80lb.
