Rivers End Tackle Report
#1
May 24, 2013

Best Bites
Striped Bass - The lower Connecticut River has peaked as far as numbers go. Many of the smaller bass have left the River but those remaining are good sized. The residents are now keyed in on herring and bunker and not anxious to dine on plastic. They're spooky but can be fooled. That being said this weekends weather will throw us a wild card in the River. Time to think outside the River.
There are bass in good numbers outside the River. Long Sand Shoal, Bartletts Reef and the Race have yielded some good sized bass this week. Reports of school bass on the Guilford - Branford Reefs has also had some bright spots this week.
Bluefish - Reports of Blues are coming in from the Connecticut River, Race and a scattering of catches along the entire shoreline. No big concentrations yet in our area.
Flounder - Not much action being reported.
Fluke - Reports coming in from everywhere and that's encouraging. The mouth of the River, Soundview and Outer Hatchetts have had some good news. The far reaches of Fishers, Montauk and Block have had good reports.
The Tri-Shop Fluke Contest has started, call us 860-388-2283, Hillyers 860-443-7615 or the Fish Connection 860-885-1739 for details.
1st - Sam Dibner - 7.75#
2nd - Paul Wozniak - 6.50#
3rd - Bob Panasci - 4.30#
Porgies - Season is open but no reports yet, except for Peconic Bay.

Weakfish - Reports from NY are slowing down. A few from West Haven. This run end early.
