Colorados Lake Pueblo S.P. Issues Safety Advisory
#1
PUEBLO, Colo. - The staff at Lake Pueblo State Park is asking people to use extreme caution in and around the Arkansas River below Pueblo Reservoir due to highly fluctuating flows. The warning pertains to tubers, kayakers and canoeists; as well as people fishing or recreating along the river shorelines.

"Anyone in or near the river below the dam should be aware of rapidly changing high-flows," said Monique Mullis, assistant park manager at Lake Pueblo. "Water releases from the reservoir can fluctuate rapidly this time of year. Water levels can change without notice, so recreationists should exercise caution below the dam."

Floating the river from Lake Pueblo down to the Nature Center is popular and a fun way to beat the summer heat. Mullis said that tubing is still allowed, but people should use caution and common sense. A life jacket is required to be worn by anyone floating the Arkansas River downstream from the Pueblo Dam, she added.

In contrast to the high flows on the river below the dam, the lake levels of the Pueblo Reservoir continue to drop. While there still is, and will continue to be plenty of water to boat, fish and enjoy; the shoreline around the lake can be soft and muddy in places. Anglers and people driving to the water's edge for shoreline access should be careful and take precautions to avoid being stuck.
