Rivers End report
#1
Striped Bass - They're back ! Maybe the water is cleaner or warmer, who knows ? Yesterday as if a holiday celebration, the bass fishing on the local reefs picked up. Long Sand Shoal is back on with some larger sized bass, the Race has a nice night bite going on and less of a daytime hit but still worthwhile. Similar for Plum Gut. Live or chunked bunker have been best with eels on the night bite.
We haven't heard too much from the mouth of the Connecticut River the last few days.
Bluefish - Blues have also been widespread the last few days and have been reported from the Westbrook reefs to the Race. Diamond jigging has been producing at the Race and Gut as well as the Westbrook reefs, bait has been better at Hatchetts.
Fluke - We started getting a couple of reports of bigger fluke in the deeper waters off Black Point the last few days. Inside at 30'-50' it's pretty consistent with 16" to 22" fish at Soundview and Waterford. Similar sizes with more fish are being reported from the Misquamicut area. About 1 in 3 fluke are keepers compared to 1 in 20 last year.
Shorebound anglers fishing Saybrook Point are getting some fluke, we heard of a 22" fish yesterday.
The Tri-Shop Fluke Contest has started, call us 860-388-2283, Hillyers 860-443-7615 or the Fish Connection 860-885-1739 for details.
1st - Rich Reicherl - 10.70#
2nd - Mark Sharoyer - 10.50#
3rd - Sam Dibner - 9.95#
Porgies -It's picked upbut I wouldn't say good. Inner Bartletts has had the best news.
Blue Crabs - Reports have been real big crabs and real little ones. Oyster and Connecticut Rivers have been the best bets.
Blackfish - Season opened this week but no reports yet. I suspect it should be worthwhile in shallower water, 8-20'.
