Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water is a little stirred up as it is trying to recover from all the rain and run off we had last week and the week before. Its really now just starting to get back to normal. It seems to be getting blue again. The swells this time of year are always a little bigger as we get waves from storms down south. On the pacific side swells are about 3 to 6 feet and on the Sea of Cortez side normally 2 to 4 feet.
WEATHER: Well weather has been pretty good all week. We have not had any rain this past week. Mostly sunny days with warm temperatures in the ladder 90,s to low 100,s and pretty warm at night with humid conditions in the 70,s. Not one bit of rain this week so far nothing like last week where it disrupted the fishing for us. There is some tropical weather south of us and hopefully we don’t get any more rain.
BILLFISHING: Well the fishing is really off the hooks this past week with lots of Striped Marlin and more Sailfish than I have ever seen for this time of year. Normally the Sailfish are here in the ladder part of June and into July. We had one boat catch 5 Sailfish on Monday and also the same boat caught some blue marlin. The best area for billfish was in the 1150 since you could just throw about any ting at them and they would hit it. We were using lures, live bait and ballyhoo. Really all areas have been really good for billfish this past week even on the pacific side they were lots of marlin and sailfish being caught.
TUNA: Good numbers of Tuna being landed with some in the 80lbs range. Most were caught using cedar plugs and lures. Ther 95 spot and the 1150 area was again the area producing fish. Most boats boats are running into the Tuna from the Light House all the way to the 1150 area and about 10 miles offshore. Its well worth the run now as there is no telling what you will run into out there now. All the fish seem to coming from the 1150 area whether its Marlin or Tuna they seem to be hanging out in the same areas.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollars a piece and there has been plenty around:
DORADO: Lots of nice size Dorado being taken from 20lbs to 45lbs on live bait, ballyhoo and lures. Really it has been pretty wide open in all areas for Dorado there really isn’t any particular area producing more than the other it is just running into them and really there is a good chance of that right now. I did hear of one Dorado being caught in the 1150 area tipping the scales at 55lbs.
INSHORE: The Pangas are really doing good inshore. They are scoring everything from Marlin to Tuna and Dorado. All the way from Grey Rock to the Pump House there are fish everywhere. The Roosterfish are here and most are being caught on the pacific side. Honestly, it is hard to write this report but its really easy to say there are fish everywhere and whatever you throw at them they bite. How do you like that not much else to say!!!!
WAHOO: I heard of a couple being caught and both were in the 40lbs range.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report.
