Well it was a great report and will have to try it out sometime. Sorry you didn't get any fish. I heard that nu2fishingagain got a new toy. a wrist watch fish finder. How does that work? See any fish?

Okay SM what's the deal. Isn't this the second trip you've struck out at Mead. I posted my best baits for Mead on Nighthawks t-day trip but just for you here goes. Chicken liver works great for both cats and strippers. I usully run a double rig on bottom with liver and anchovies but livers work 80% better. For the really big fish try a buying some old shrimp and either stink it up some more or just fish it semi-fresh.

The cats and strippers should be out in the deeper water near the dam but you should be able to find them cruising the coves and bays in that area. Overson arm has always been good to me but the big boys only come here during the spawn in spring time. Try fishing more during the dark in the summer months, but during fall and spring, cooler water could change the habits some but not enough to mess with you head.

Maybe I'll make run down some time after finals and see what we can do.

Southernman, after you left, probably about the time you hit the main road my cell phone rings. It was work, had to go in for a few hours. Obviously nothing was happening here, so I didn't mind plus it's OT.

The spot had been very productive in the recent past. There were a lot of people on this particular day that were fooled.

Nighthawk, the finder you heard about is a Hummingbird Smartcast, RF-30. It was my Christmas present to myself. I would like too say it worked like a champ, but I can't. Granted, it didn't register any fish and we didn't catch any fish. It did show something just off shore but not sure if they were fish, may have been some kind of small fish in the weeds. The advertised range (75') is greatly hampered by heavy winds and waves. I couldn't maintain a signal past about 30' and with a tailwind the casts were going about 3 times as far. Further testing will be required.

Southernman, please don't tell hedgesd not to come down. Someone needs teach me how to fish. LOL

Take care,

You don't have to soak the livers in salt water. We hook'em on and fling it out with the same bottom rig as always. I've used a different rig for Mead but any will work. I've got all December off and maybe I'll make a trip just so I can get my money out of that license.

N2FA, hey why don't you come up to Utah some time. I've got Southernman into plenty of fish and you are always welcome to join us. Don't worry about how many fish you catch. You are doing all the fishing any of us ever do, but hooking a couple is always nice. When you come up bring that finder. It should give you something to play with while your waiting for a fish.

Hey Southernman when you want to come up. Panguitch should have safe ice by this weekend, plus the food is always good. I've heard of a couple places that have some decent fishing but 4X4 is needed.
