Bullfrog Lake Powell American Heroes
#1
Spent Nov 1, 2 and 3 fishing, camping and enjoying the beautiful lake out of Bullfrog Marina. We took a beautiful 60' houseboat that Aramark has graciously provided the American Heroes Project to Stanton Creek and put her on the beach as a base for the 15 individuals that were involved. A few got lost on their way in, but cell phone service prevailed and we were soon all together. 9 were veterans that we were honoring with this event, 6 support people joined them.
The weather was great albeit a little chilly after dark. No wind until Sunday PM.
Fishing consisted of leaving the houseboat after breakfast and a short trip to the Moki wall. Electronics showed fish at 100' and down went the lures on downriggers. There were a lot of fish on the sonar, but enticing them to bite was another story. After awhile we moved into Moki canyon. Towards the end of the canyon in the shallow off color water, we found stripe bass and smallmouth. topwaters worked a little but it was anchovies that saved the day. 1/2 anchovie on a 24" fluro leader was the top producer. The smallmouth were small and abundant. Stripe bass ranged from small yearling to 3 and 4 pound fish. Although they couldn't be described as fat they didn't look emaciated either. Each evening fresh fish were added to the menu and everyone thought they were delicious.
Over the 3 day trip we probably caught close to 100 fish and each of the combat veterans attending caught fish. A great success by anyone's standards.

Coming from a family with 7 Vets and being a Vet myself thank you for what you do. This means a lot to me to see kind people taking fellow brothers/sisters to get away and be out there on the water. Thank you for your time, effort, and money for being there.
