FUN ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AT BOYD LAKE IN AUGUST

LOVELAND, Colo. -Boyd Lake State Park is pleased to announce its August program schedule. From campfire talks to fishing clinics, Boyd Lake State Park has something for everyone. All programs and their materials are free and open to the public. All vehicles entering Boyd Lake State Park must purchase an $8 daily pass or an annual pass good to all 42 Colorado State Parks ($70).

Friday, August 2: Campfire Nights - Aquatic Ecology of Boyd Lake State Park

7 to 8:30 p.m.

Do you know what fish eat? Have you ever wondered what a dragonfly nymph looks like? Join the City of Fort Collins Utilities Education Specialist Chris Kotalik to discover the many macroinvertebrates we can find right here in Boyd Lake State Park. Sample, sort, and observe invertebrates such as crayfish, dragonflies, damselflies, clams, mayflies, snails, worms, and more. Microscopes, dip nets, dry nets, and other special equipment will be provided. Meet at the Heinricy Parking Lot at the very south end of the park, right next to the Cottonwood Campground, at 7 p.m. Afterwards we will walk over to the campground to roast marshmallows.

Saturday, August 3: Boat Safety Basics<br />
7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Join Boyd Lake Rangers as they cover the basics of how to stay safe on the water. Explore the Boyd Lake State Park Ranger Boat and ask questions. Safe boating is NO accident! Meet at the Cottonwood Campground group fire ring next to the A/B Building at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, August 9:.Campfire Nights - Urban Wildlife<br />
7 to 9 p.m

Families, children and individuals of all ages are invited to join a Colorado Parks &amp; Wildlife Naturalist for a campfire talk and activity all about urban wildlife. We will discuss some of the animals we call neighbors here in northern Colorado including: skunks, squirrels, coyotes, fox, and more. After the talk, participants will get a chance to touch animal skins and create a tracking key for a handy reference item. We will meet at the campfire ring near the A/B Building in the Cottonwood Campground. Bring camp chairs, blankets and water.

Saturday August 10: Fire Safety<br />
12 noon to 1 p.m.

A Boyd Lake Ranger will be available to talk all about fire safety. Meet at the A/B Building in the Cottonwood Campground for an afternoon of fun!

Saturday, August 10: Entertaining Campfire Stories for the Whole Family<br />
7 to 8 p.m.

Spellbinders Oral Storytellers of Larimer County are coming to share fun campfire stories. Bring the whole family and something comfortable to sit on. We will meet at the A/B building at the group campfire ring in the Cottonwood Campground. Marshmallows will be provided.

Friday, August 16: Campfire Nights - History of Boyd Lake<br />
7 to 9 p.m

Families, children and individuals of all ages are invited to join a Colorado Parks &amp; Wildlife Naturalist for a campfire talk about the history of Boyd Lake State Park and the surrounding area. We will meet at the campfire ring near the A/B Building in the Cottonwood Campground. Bring camp chairs, blankets, and water. Those who choose to go on the night walk after the campfire program must wear closed toe shoes.

Saturday, August 17: Edible &amp; Medicinal Plant Walk<br />
9 to 10 a.m.

Boyd Lake State Park Naturalists are here to show you edible and medicinal plants of the shortgrass prairie steppe and foothills. We will learn to identify plant species and how to prepare some of these plants. Meet us at the Swim Beach Pavilion at 9 a.m.

Friday, August 23:.Campfire Nights - Creatures of the Night<br />
7 to 10 p.m.

Families, children and individuals of all ages are invited to join a Colorado Parks &amp; Wildlife Naturalist for a campfire talk and activity about nocturnal animals. We will discuss some of the nocturnal animals that live in the Boyd Lake area including bats, owls, badgers, coyotes, raccoons and more. After the talk, we will go for a moonlit night walk on our nature trail. We will meet at the campfire ring near the A/B Building in the Cottonwood Campground. Bring camp chairs, blankets, and water. Those who choose to go on the night walk must wear closed toe shoes.

Saturday, August 24: Night Sky Viewing<br />
9 p.m.

The Northern Colorado Astronomical Society is hosting a Star Party! We will gather for night sky viewing with telescopes at the Heinricy parking lot on the south end of the park at 9 pm. Bring camp chairs, blankets, and water.

Friday, August 30: Campfire Nights - Emergency Response and Preparedness<br />
7 to 8 p.m.

Boyd Lake State Park Ranger Joel Smith will teach us all about emergency response, basic medical skills, and disaster preparedness. We will view special medical items and learn about their uses. There will be the opportunity to ask questions after the program. Please note: this class does NOT lead to any certifications, it is simply an introduction. Meet at the Cottonwood Campground Fire Ring next to the A/B Building.

Saturday, August 31: Fishing Clinic<br />
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Colorado Parks &amp; Wildlife representatives and Loveland Fishing Club members will be on site to teach youngsters and their families how to fish! The event is aimed at children ages 5-16, however anyone is welcome to join in the fun. Parents or participants above the age of 16 must have a fishing license. Loaner poles and bait will be provided. Be sure to reserve your spot and pole by emailing dnr_interp.boydlake@state.co.us or calling (970) 669-1739 ext. 19. We will meet at the Heinricy Parking Area on the very south end of the park. Come learn fishing tips and about the fish that live in Boyd Lake!
