Hebgan lake
#1
Hello, I have fished Hebgan every Memorial Day weekend of my life, it's a 3 generation tradition since the 30s starting with my grandfather.

I was wondering how is the ice fishing right now?
If anybody has been fishing it recently I would like to hear how it is.
Just wondering if it would be worth a weekend trip.

Thanks

I was up there this last weekend. There are three layers to the ice, 2" of good ice on the bottom, 8-10" of slushy stuff, and an additional 4-5" of ok ice on top. It held a snowmobile but there were little pockets (16") that you needed to steer clear of. I saw two sleds go into one of those pockets on the mud flats across from Kirkwood. Fishing was slow for rainbows but there were plenty of browns and whities.
