Steve Ruark along with his father, Lee, from Pendleton SC chartered the Happy
Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. Winds were out of the west at 10 mph with 2-3 ft. seas.

We stopped on our way out to get a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes later, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find that you would be in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We started trolling with two plainers down and four surface baits. The color of the water was not at its best – a clean, green color – and little to no current. This will make it a slow fishing trip. As we trolled around and caught one Bonito, the water color improved a little, so I set up two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite on top of one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale. We patiently waited for his arrival – then it came – Sailfish right long!!!! The Sailfish was very aggressive, grabbing the bait and screaming line off to the south – a good solid hook up. Lee was the angler and he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle with the Sailfish. Twenty minutes later, Mark, our mate, grabbed the leader as the 88” Sailfish was brought into the boat – pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to fight again.
