Vancouver Island Salmon & Halibut Report
#1
I'm a director of a couple of non profit societies up here that are involved in work pertaining to recreational anglers and fish/stream restoration. I'm also starting a personal project that will raise money for a local project to increase Chinook (King) salmon numbers on one of our local larger rivers. The short term goal is to boost juvenile salmon numbers from 300,000 to 2 million. The personal project is called the "2014 BC Salmon Recovery Fund" and I'm working with all our local guides in this effort. The plan involves every saltwater fishing guide in our local area raising their charter fees by $5.00 per trip and then donating those funds at the end of the year towards this project. So far the guides I have contacted are 100% behind this. They get a boat window sticker so that people on the docks will recognize that they are helping and I'm supplying each boat with laminated info sheets explaining the project. Here is the boat sticker.
