Flaming Gorge macs?
#1
Is the fall a good time to catch big macs at Flaming Gorge? We were thinking of opting out of Lake Powell this fall and hitting up the Gorge if we could get into some big macs. We were probably going to hire a guide.

From what Ive seen and heard you have to weed through the little ones to get to the big ones in the fall. Im not an expert though. I will say if you do go with a guide I would go with captian Jim Williams he will put you on big fish...

September and October are the worst months of the year for catching Big Mac at Flaming Gorge unless your a snag-er. That's when all the snag-rs gather in Linwood Bay.

The bigger macks get "pre-spawn moody" from about late September until mid November or so. They still eat, but its the toughest 2 months of the year to catch 'em in a sporting manner (in the mouth). The first half or so of September is still ok though. Ive got one day open this month too.[Wink]
