I have only been bass fishing for 3 1/2 yrs. I received s spool of spiderline 12lb fusion for xmas. I use mono or super mono. I know nothing about this line, and wondering when this type line is used?

I would dare to say that the Spider Line is used for when you go fishing. But really, I like Spider Line and use according to the size fish I want to catch. [cool] “Don’t forget to wiggle your jig.” davetclown

Dave, Thanks for the heads up on the fusion line. DUH! I was wondering if this line had any stretch, no stretch, might it cut my guides, things like that. Anybody? Thanks.....Joshua.

FUSION IS "FUSED" SPECTRA FIBERS, STRONGER THAN MONO BUT MORE "FORGIVING" THAN BRAIDED LINE. VERY VERY LOW STRETCH, BUT HAS THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS OF MONO. GOOD LUCK.

There is a lubricant you can put on the line to increase the life of your line and reduce friction (I found it on the Bigfishtackle online Catalog) I have had this line on my favorite setup for a number of years now and have not noticed any wear on my guides. I don’t have Nylon guides so I don’t know if that would wear or not. I can tell you that Nylon is a lot tougher than you might think. Joshua: A guide friend of mine on Lake Tahoe uses Fusion Line. He fishes 200 feet deep with Down Riggers. The Fusion is spooled on conventional reels, Abu Garcias'. He proclaims to "no stretch" and great "hook setting" with it. They fish Mackinaw to 20 pounds or so. George, anon, and dave, Thanks for all the info, guys. This is really great. Having never had the guts to go on any message boards about fishing before, I am very grateful. Guess I just thought I would really make an ass of myself because I'm basically a beginner. All you guys are really great. I'm learning a great deal just reading the messages posted here. Still waiting for the weather to change to get out one the lake here in Topeka Kansas. Wish I had been turned on to fishing when I was in the bay area for 12 years. All I did was play golf then and carpentry. Will get back there some day and to Arizona to fish. Thanks for the great info again guys....... Joshua

Joshua, Just remember there is only one thing more enjoyable than going fishing eneyware. That is taking little ones with you for the trip. I only have 2 but the days I spend with them fishing have overcome all other fishing trips for the most enjoyable. I may love fishing the gulf coast of Texas but the days at the local pond with my grandchildren are truly the best. I want to thank you for joining the board as you and other anglers like you are what makes the board an enjoyable visit. And an endless place to learn and grow. Here is a little trick for ya. Fusion is great line for deep water applications. When fishing for trophy LG. Mouth in the midwest lakes where clarity is not as great as say Cal. H2O, I like Fusion 20LB. Now for the secret. Instead of reel lube etc get you a large can of "SILICONE WATER GUARD" made by Sno-Seal, its the same stuff you spray on leather coats, boots etc, PAY ATTENTION NOW!!!!! SPRAY THIS STUFF ON THE LINE WHILE IT IS STILL ON THE FACTORY SPOOL, COMPLETELY SATURATE THE SPOOL, AS FUSION LINE BY ITS CHEMICAL MAKE UP REPELS WATER, LET THE SPRAY COMPLETELY DRY, ABOUT 1 HOUR, THEN SPOOL YOUR REELS. The Silicone will make the line lay flatter on the spool, insures fewer backlashes, but most important will allow you to easly cast light lures on heavy line. Silicone reduces the line friction by over 45%, Hey this not only works on fusion but spider wire, and all the other braded lines AND also works like a charm on your boat carpet, seats, etc... J.O. AT MY WORK USE "MOC" PRODUCTS. OIL AND FUEL ADDITIVES, BRAKE CLEANERS ETC. CAN I USE THE SILICONE SPRAY IF I DON'T HAVE "SNO-SEAL". DO YOU THINK ANY SILICONE BASED SPRAY WILL DO THE SAME THING?

Thanks CactusJack for the info on silicone spray. Sounds like a great trick. Think I'll do that. Have been out three times in the last month and have found that this fusion does indeed cast farther that any mono I have ever used. I like it lots..... Joshua
