Chris Crookshanks, NDOW Fisheries Biologist, said that anglers were experiencing good success throughout the area. Anglers were catching fish at Cave Lake and Illipah Reservoir as well. Anglers reported taking rainbow trout that weighed up to three pounds. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers were taking the fish.

The reservoirs are located in White Pine County.[/indent]

Ben Johnson of the Nevada Division of State Parks said that fishing pressure was very low. The reservoir is covered with ice and the north end is the only area safe for ice fishing.

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 3]Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks said that threadfin shad, the main food for stripers, have moved out of Las Vegas Bay into deeper water. Shore anglers were still successful landing stripers that ranged from 14 – 16 inches in length. Anchovies were the bait of choice.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 3]Boaters fishing near the hatchery area around Saddle Cove were successful landing striped bass that averaged 18 inches. Sassy Shad lures and Crankbait were landing the fish.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"][size 3]Shore anglers reported good success for stripers and a few stocked rainbow trout in the Hemenway Harbor and Pumphouse Cove area following the trout plant. The stripers ranged from 14 – 16 inches and were taken with anchovies. The trout averaged 11 inches and were taken with nightcrawlers and PowerBait.[/size][/font]

Due to the cold and windy weather, angler success rate dropped from the previous week. Boaters that were casting and trolling large lures in search of big striped bass only found small fish that weighed from 2 – 3 pounds.

Shore anglers fishing Willow Beach reported good success for stocked rainbow trout following the weekly trout plant. PowerBait and worms were landing the fish.

Placer Cove, Willow Beach, Aztec Wash, and Cottonwood Cove are scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout tomorrow (01/09/04).

Daniel Maes, Installation Technician, said that because of strong winds, both Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs are still only approximately half covered in ice. The ice is only two inches thick and not yet safe for ice fishing. No fish were creeled this past week.

A recent storm deposited six inches of snow and the high temperatures were in the mid 50s and the lows were in the lower 20s.[/indent]

Ponds at Lorenzi Park, Floyd Lamb State Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City will be stocked with rainbow trout on Saturday (1/3/04).
