WOW! What a Day
#1
On Thursday we had an epic day at the gorge. My buddy and I landed seven lake trout all over 20 lbs with two near 30 lbs. The entire day was surreal. We went out with a great guide, Clark Sabey, who was single minded in getting us to a "fish on" state. See the pics below. We ended the day with our last cast ending up with a double...A DOUBLE to end the day...Thank you Captain Sabey. If you look close at the Laker with his mouth open, you can see the tail of the Kokanee he snacked on just before my tube jig.

Bob,

Those are some nice pictures there. Great report!

If you don't mind me asking, were you jigging or trolling for them?

Thanks,

On Thursday the lakers were stacked in various locations and we jigged big white tubes. On Friday, the fish scattered and trolling probably would have been more effective. Great fun.

Can you help me out? Thinking about going to the Gorge to try to get some lakers to smoke with my 10 yr. old Grandson. Couple of questions:

1. Best way to get there and best place to launch a 16' Bass Tracker.
2. Cheapest place to stay. Trolling motor charging friendly.
3. Local fish shop to get some basic info.
4. Best techniques; downriggers, jigging, casting, longlining, leadcore,
etc.
5. Best type and size of jigs or lures.

Thanks for any type of info.

Here are my suggestions:
- launch out of Manila at Lucerne marina
- Stay at the Browning café/motel for $55.00
- First day we jigged big tubes as fish were clustered
- 2nd day we SHOULD have trolled as they scattered
- Do you have good sonar? If no, look for a cluster of boats and find a spot. If yes, spend a few minutes looking for the ones right on the bottom and jig, jig, jig.

Good luck. Bob
p.s. I should be there Friday

Thanks Bob:

What size is "big" tubes? Color and wt. of jig head. Tipped with anything?

Is it best to go I-80 to 414?

Yes, I do have a good sonar. Lowrance HDS 5 Lake Insight.

We used white 5" and 7" with 3/4 oz and 1 oz respectively. No bait attached.

If you are there Friday, look for me in a Black and White Crestliner Fish Hawk.

Thanks my friend. If I can make it Friday, I will be in a 16' red/silver Bass Tracker side console with a 75 hp Mercury.
Good luck!
