Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Mr. & Mrs. Rusty Howard along with family all from Texas chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph and seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s with blue skies. On the way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Ten minutes later lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, located 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two plainers down, each of them having a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had four Ballyhoos. We trolled the reefs, in and out ranging from 90 ft. of water to 180 ft. catching Kingfish and Barracudas. There was a good color change forming in 300 ft of water north of Fort Lauderdale – an excellent place to put up the kite. We put out one kit with two Goggle Eyes and three Shark baits – one on the surface, middle and bottom. As we sat there waiting for our next predator to make an appearance, a black shadow appeared on the short kite bait. The Goggle Eye frantically tried to escape, as the Sailfish circled it, but the Sailfish had no interest in feeding. From there we got attacked a couple of times by Mahi Mahi’s and would up with four gaffers Mahi Mahi. Afterwards our the rod with the bottom shark bait bent over as Rusty hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. After twenty minutes and less than fifty feet from the boat, the Shark pulled the hook and was set free. We reset everything again and caught an 18 lb. Tuna. Our total catch on this trip was three Barracudas, four Mahi Mahi’s, one tuna and three Kingfish. With plenty of good eating fish for dinner tonight, it was time to head back. The anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
