The good news about cod fishing on Stellwagen Bank for 2004 has to be the return of the haddock. East of the Bank in 180-200 ft depths haddock are in numbers that we haven't seen in 20 years.
Haddock has been removed from the bag limit and the size limit reduced to 21 inches for recreational anglers. The last Saturday in December, one charter vessel landed 60 keeper haddock from the deepwater east of the bank.
This is good news for traveling angler wishing to stock their freezers this winter and spring. We have two vessels running during the winter months and will employ up to ten during the spring run.
