[#990033]COMINS LAKE[/#990033]
Chris Crookshanks, NDOW Fisheries Biologist, said that anglers were experiencing good success throughout the area. Anglers were catching fish at Cave Lake and Illipah Reservoir as well. Anglers reported taking rainbow trout that weighed up to three pounds. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers were taking the fish. The reservoirs are located in White Pine County.
Fishing has been good for rainbow trout that are being caught through the ice, according to the Nevada Division of State Parks. Several groups of anglers have fished at the lake this week and all were successful for planter trout. The ice ranges from three to 12 inches thick. Temperatures have been in the
single digits at night to the 40s during the day.

Ice appears to be thick enough for ice fishing, but no anglers have been observed at the lake during the past week.
Boaters have been enjoying fairly good success for striped bass in the Boulder Basin while fishing has been slow for anglers who have been fishing from shore and in the Overton Arm.

Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks report that boaters have caught stripers this week at the 33 Hole, Saddle Cove and along the Hemenway Wall. Large hooks tipped with anchovies are catching the fish.
Because of the cold water temperature, stripers and other warm water fish have taken to deeper water and feed infrequently, according to NDOW biologists. This accounts for the slow action along the shoreline.

About the only success that has come from the Overton Arm has been for stripers around the islands that are located outside of Echo Bay. Boaters have caught some largemouth bass near the Muddy River by casting top water lures and black rubber worms.

On a positive note, rainbow trout fishing has been good following the plants with small spinners being the most productive method for catching the fish. One angler reported that he did very well with a white Rooster Tail lure. Trout will be stocked Friday (1/16/04) at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.

Only a few small striped bass were caught over the weekend around Cottonwood Cove. Boaters who were fishing with anchovies and squid near the marina caught those fish.

Fishing was slow at Willow Beach following last week’s rainbow trout plant. The next Willow Beach plant is scheduled for Friday (1/16/04).

Ice conditions appeared to be safe over the weekend for ice fishing, but conditions could quickly change with the onset of warmer weather. The ice was about six inches thick at Haymeadow Reservoir and four to five inches at Cold Springs Reservoir. NDOW creel census clerks checked only two anglers over the weekend and they had caught one trout.
Ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City will be stocked with rainbow trout on Friday (1/16/04).
