Hi George,

Looks like it's in your own neighborhood! I used to live across the street from the Belmont Pier. I now live in Bixby Knolls, in Long Beach. You want me to sign you up for our next tourney on Sunday the 17th? Do you have a float tube? We are having a blast out there every weekend.

Kiyo
www.baytubers.com

come catch a legal Halibut!
www.baytubers.com

Hello Kiyo:
Welcome to the California Boards and thanx for posting. I have to be honest and say that I have never fished from a float tube. It looks like a blast and it is something I would like to learn how to do.
How much would it cost to get a basic tube and are there restrictions as far as what lakes or harbors you can drop-in on and fish? Also, Kiyo, there is a fair sized great white shark on your site, what color tube does he find less attractive.

Booyaa To Ya'!
http://www.booyaaclothing.com
Romero

Kiyo: I'm chomping at the bit! But if the sea bass show before the 17th I'll probably have to cancel. What are the rules? Can we use live bait etc. Where and when do we meet, fishing times. Hello Booya,

You can get float tubes anywhere from $50.00-$350.00. It just depends on what you want. We fish mostly in Belmont Shore in Long Beach inside the bouys. We are all wearing our life jackets and carry a whistle or horn in case a boat doesn't see us for some reason. Come out and join us! Do you live in the area? Usually someone has an extra tube if you want to try it out. You will just have to have your own waders or wetsuit.

Kiyo

come catch a legal Halibut!
www.baytubers.com

Hi George,

The rules are posted on my website under " Floattube rules and regs". We meet at the Flip Flop Shack in Belmont Shore at 7:30am we launch at 8am and weigh in is at 1pm. If you don't know how to get there go to the "Directions to tournament location" page on my website and type in your address and it will give you a door to door map. We are also giving away a Custom graphite rod to anyone who fishes our tournaments that catches the biggest Halibut of the month.

Yes, we do use live baits. Mostly live Smelts. We catch them either at Mother's Beach or the Belmont Pier. We usually start to catch the smelts at 5or 6am in the morning.

Hope to see you there.

Kiyo
www.baytubers.com

come catch a legal Halibut!
www.baytubers.com

Kiyo,
For someone that wants to give float tubing a shot, is there a place to rent for a day? Would you mind posting dates and times as to when you will be in the water so us float tube green horns might be able to piggy back your expertise.

Booyaa To Ya'!
http://www.booyaaclothing.com
Romero

Kiyo: I went to Cherry Beach this AM but got chased away by a boat race and $10.00 parking fee. George

George Van Zant
http://www.bigfishtackle.com/georgescorner.htm
Hi George,

We had our tournament yesterday and they were racing three different races. The big boat races, the jetski races and the wind sail races. All three at one time. You had to pay $10.00 for parking?? In quarters? The possible state record Halibut was caught a couple of weeks ago with 6lb test and plastics by the Belmont Pier.

See ya soon,

Kiyo

come catch a legal Halibut!
www.baytubers.com

Hi Booyaa,

I don't think you can rent floattubes anywhere? But if you are looking for a float tube contact Joe Smith at JANDV CUSTOM RODS -909-629-6323. He has NEW good float tubes for only $40.00-$50.00. You can't beat this price for the quality!! I will let you know when I will be going out next. Usually there are a couple of us who go out everyday. Just look at my message board and they will post if they are going out so anyone can join them. Most of them will be happy to show you the ropes. Very nice bunch of guys.

Kiyo

come catch a legal Halibut!
www.baytubers.com

George,
There should be a law against a boat race taking pressident over fishing. Well on the other hand the local econimy does need the income from the Parking Fees. Mybe next time.

Texas Gulf Coast Fisher.

That has got to be a f'n blast when you hook into something big. I tubed it last summer in the Sierra's for a few and hung a 6 pound Alpers and even that guy pulled me for a nice little ride. I can't imagine a 40 pound anything! How many horsepower is that?

Jeff Jost
http://albackore.com
Tackle bags designed BY anglers FOR anglers!

Jeff,
That reminds me of an old movie that I have not seen in at least 20 years, and it was old then. It is called "The Old Man and The Sea". Have you seen it? It is truly one of my greatest movies to watch. It is about an old man that lived to fish to the end. I hope I get the opertunity to see it again soon.

Texas Gulf Coast Fisher.
