In addition I am looking at this reel. It is the penn 209m, 309m, or 9m. Any info on these feels? Castabity? Durability? Usable from shore? Or best used from boat vertical jigging?

Looks to me you have all you need to do all the types of fishing, you want to do. Now you need three rods to do it with. Surf, boat and a spinning outfit to use at both.

Thanks! I have a 7' MH spinning rod that I picked up in June. I have been lookin at a 7' bait caster as well. The options are MH, H, XH. All with a medium fast action. It doesn't come as a combo so that is the reason I asked about the penn reel.

I would get hard for your boat/pier rod. Use any reel you like that will take 20 lb line. that should work out well for you.
