Barrel gaff
#1
Hi all, I have a coworker who told me about a barrel gaff you guys use there in Hawaii. How can I get a hold of one of these? It sounds like the perfect catch and release tool for pier fishing I have been looking for.

The photo you provided is from S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo. You can order it from them.

It's made for pretty heave leader line though. Inside the barrel is a flapper. You put the barrel on your main line. The barrel itself is attached to a rope or other fishing rod. When the barrel slides over your swivel the flapper will open and let it slide past. When you pull back the other way, the flapper closes and the swivel can't get past the flapper. It's also known as a slide gaff.

Thanks! I plan on using 20-30 lb test line. From all the different gaffs I have looked at this one doesn't provide the mortality rate the others do.
